China Moments: Day 2

Waking up early in the morning, we headed off to Nanjing on a 4-hour coach ride... Catching more zzz on board, our first destination was the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall.

Built in monotone colours, we understood from our tour guide that one should not walk on the stones but only on the designated paths because the stones represent the dead. And as our tour guide was quite solemn when it came to this place, we adopted the same attitude as well, and I chose not to take much photos of this place. It's not a place of cheer...

Despite there being 2 buildings that house the dead, we were unfortunate to only be able to enter one, as the smaller one was under maintenance due to the constant showers China was facing because of the typhoon. Nonetheless, we both have learnt much from it, and hope that peace will continue to reign in the world after this sad incident.

Moving on, we made our way to Yuhuatai Scenic Area.

Our last event for the day was a 3-hour stop at Nanjing Confucius Temple for shopping and our own dinner.

Here's the Boy at the Confucius Temple. It is said that during the exam periods, the guards would lock over 300 students in the temple, and they could only come out when the exams ended, which is about 7 days long... I think the Boy is hoping that he'll become a scholar with that picture =)

Just some pictures of the place after shopping...

Our stay in Nanjing was at Jiangsu Yin Mao Hotel. I was pretty pleased with this hotel as it was clean and spacious. At least we got to have a good night's rest before waking up early the next morning =)

Given that our trip was a budget one, we had 4 dinner and 1 lunch that was not provided by the tour. This night was one of the night where we had to source for our own dinner. We decided to try out one of the little restaurants near our hotel. Worrying if their food was to our liking, we ordered what we taught sounded nice since the Chinese in China name their food differently from us. Thankfully, the meal wasn't bad, as we enjoyed a thoroughly sumptuous meal! Not bad for a first time order in China =) Let's just hope our future meals will just be as good!
