World Cup Aftermath
So, the World Cup has come and gone, and being the little football fan that I am, I decided to join the craze for the finals by waking up early at 2.30am just to catch a little of the action. It’s funny how the 2 teams I originally supported ended up in the finals together, with it being a little difficult for me to take sides (though I did feel that Spain was the better team).
I decided to watch only the first half since I still had to hurl myself to work in a few hours. Good choice I believe because it was a little painful to watch since it was pretty boring and brutal! It was disappointing to see how the Dutch played so physical, while my supported player of Spain did not get a starting 11 again. And while Spain fans celebrate with exhilaration and joy of their win, it’s funny how I did not feel much happiness. I wonder if it was because of all the matches that they played, not once did I get a chance to see them play… Instead, I caught the other teams in action, of which I found a new team bursting with potential.
Germany… (Wave Boy wave... Haha...).
Yes, the Boy is a German fan. And while I did not like Germany initially because of a certain player, seeing their play on the field however took my breath away.
So, maybe it’s time to support a new team? You can call me a traitor, but then I guess I am a supporter of skill and fair play rather than brutish tactics. Besides, I’m quite sure the Boy will be buying their jersey soon, of which he’ll get the white, and I the black. Not to mention that the jerseys of Germany are always oh-so-stylish!
So, it’s going to be another 4 years before the Boy and I:
(1) Start cheering for teams again,
(2) Holding our breaths as the opposition team attacks our supporting team,
(3) Camping out at pubs/bars to catch the games,
(4) Waking up in the middle of the night to head to a community centre to join in the football fervor, and…
(5) Perhaps don the same colours/jerseys of a country…
I will miss those times… =)
