Christian Lacroix: The Costumier

With my interest in design still going on, the Boyfriend was really kind to accompany me to the National Museum of Singapore to catch the Christian Lacroix Costumier Exhibition, even though he was not very keen on it.

I was so excited to be there, because for once, I could see costumes designed by a very famous person himself, as I try to gather more inspiration and ideas for my own sketches as well =)

I believe what really fascinated me was that I really did not expect to see costumes from so many different eras/genres. And surprisingly, my favourite of the lot for the male costumes was the vest of the flamenco dancer, where despite the dance being of Spanish culture, the design of the vest looked pretty oriental to me.

My decision to make a last minute visit to the museum was all the more a right one when I got to see sketches from the master himself. I do not know why, but I always have a love for illustration and sketches. And something which I remember reading from the book was that every artist has got his style, and somehow, I felt that Lacroix's style of drawing was the elongated neck of his models.

After a round in the dark room, we were brought to an exhibition space within the room, where an array of gaudy and flamboyant costumes greeted us. Coupled with dancing costumes swinging from above, and a video with chirpy music from the past, one cannot help but feel light-hearted as well, as we bid the exhibition goodbye, and head back to reality.
