Wow. I have never caught a Stomp performance before even though they have been back year after year. With the girl in the military band during her school days, she had every valid reason to pull me along. Haa...

Throughout the entire performance, the girl was completely intrigued by the incorporated martial-arts-like movements in their performances. Their creativity and movements were just so great that it just blew everyone's' mind off, including mine. Not to mention that they had a nutty display of antics that sent everyone laughing non-stop in the hall. What can I say, it was truly an awesome performance, we totally enjoyed it! I would have to thank the girl for pulling me along. With that, I reckon we will be back to catch their performance once again should they be back to perform in Singapore next year =)

I guess that Boy has become very much influenced by me, as he was pretty willing to go along with me for the play SingDollar. Not to mention that it was held at the Esplanade theatre, which got us very much excited as it would be our first time there together =)

Staged in the streets of Geylang, the storyline was about how a group of people try to get away with a discovered bag of money. While I was very much tickled by most of their jokes and amazed by their accurate accents, I guess the play was a little too long-winded for my liking. Nevertheless, the garish costumes, the hilarious jokes and the wonderful acting, SingDollar was really a play worth my time and money.

An excellent play that I've come across since Own Time Own Target. What's it all about? Defending the Caveman is about a guy trying to stand up for his male species, by explaining how the ancient caveman, who was a hunter before, is also very much the same hunter, only that he does what he really is in more modern actions. Below are some of the points which the actor, Joe Little brought up.

Men are hunters.

* That is a reason why they tend to focus on the things they do, and are oblivious to the rest of the world. It is also a reason why they cannot multi-task very well.
* Because they are hunters, they are also protective of their territory. In modern times, their territory includes their car. That is why, when they get lost, they do not like to ask for directions, for it means inviting the other person into their moving territory =)

Women on the other hand, are gatherers.

* In ancient times, they head out to the fields/forest to gather plants, roots, vegetables. Because of that, they are in tune with the environment, and knows whatever else is happening around them.
* Bringing that into modern eras, women love to gather as many things as they would like, even though they might not need it. Sound familiar? Yes, shopping!
* And since women tend to gather in groups, they gather more information from one another too, aka, gossiping!
* Lastly, as they are so in tune with their environment, no matter how messy a place can seem, women always tend to know where things are located in a messy pile.

Men tend to work on negotiations: they would 'argue' it out to determine who has to do it.
Women work via cooperation: everybody likes company!

Involving the audience as much as he could, the play undoubtedly brought about many laughs. As much as the situations brought up are so very common, Joe Little brought out the comedic sides very well too, making it very clear that it is just how men and women are made out to be. Plus, even though these two genders are very different, it is these differences that makes men and women so compatible for each other, for one gender's strengths protect the other gender's weaknesses.

I can't help but feel enlightened. And yes, Men are not arseholes, right Raphel? =D

Having seen adverts on it, as well as the synopsis, I thought that this might be an interesting play to look forward to, as the Boy and I made our way down to the Singapore Repertory Theatre for the first time.

The play was not bad. There were funny moments, there were laughs, and at least Raphel was enjoying it from what I saw, perhaps more so when the bimbotic secretary Pippa occasionally flashed her underwear/butt for all to see =)

But then, there was this nagging feeling inside of me, as I felt that there was still something missing. It was not until I saw Tara Tan's comment on Monday's Lifestyle that I realised what was wrong.

Indeed, like her, I did feel like there was just too much rapid bantering. On a few occasions, I was lost, much to my slight irritation, as I did sometimes wish that they would speak a little slower. Perhaps it was their accent, though I never had problems with understanding foreigners' accent. I have to agree with her too that the chemistry between the lead male and female was not there.

As much as the play might have its flaws, it still had its laughs, and I did enjoy moments of it, mature themes and all. At least it did keep me wondering if Andy (male lead) would really leave his wife for Jo, the new office colleague of his. But true to its synopsis description of 'The Office' meets 'Love Actually', Andy stayed on with his wife, reminding me very much of the love story between Juliet, Peter and Mark in the film 'Love Actually'.

Since Raphel accompanied me to an all-boys play, I thought it's only right that he went to an all-girls play this time round. This time around, we went to catch The Vagina Monologues, held at the Drama Centre at the National Library.

It's interesting to know how some women choose to believe that there are other nice things in between their legs as they feel that their vagina are ugly. It's also interesting that some of them don't even like to mention the V word, but calling it by many other names like coochie-snotcher, peewee etc.

Then there was this story of how a husband strayed because his wife decided not to shave after her one bad experience with shaving. She believed that hair is there for a reason, which does make one wonder and ponder about it. Can't help but find it interesting too, apart from her adorable and comical Indian accent =)

Other notable events are a video clip of genital mutilation, childbirth, a real-life sensuous pole dance, actresses dressed in pinafores throwing out free sanitary pads, a transsexual who tried really hard to assume her new identity as a woman, hoping that others would accept her too, like her late boyfriend who died because others did not want him to be with her, and a scene of hilarious moans of different genres.

In summary, the play features a wide array of topics, ranging from shaving, to abuse, genital mutilation, transsexuals and lesbianisms, first periods and childbirth. You can't get any better of female topics than this =)

It was our first time watching a play with each other. Knowing that Nahele has a huge interest in the military, I knew that I had to watch the production ‘Own Time Own Target’ with her at all cost =D

Divided into 3 main plays: Full Tank!, Radio Silence, Botak Boys, I would say the whole show was simply fantastic. From the beginning of the first play to the very last bit where the actors bowed to show their appreciation, Nahele was bursting with laughter throughout the entire time!! Boy, her mouth must be feeling really sore that night =P Plus, she was totally amused by the musical part which got her really excited. Men in skimpy and tight clothings gyrating their hips to the music really got her into the mood. Haha... (Too bad it was an army play where there are no women in skimpy clothes =P)

I must really give credits to all the actors and the producer of the play. Not only are they versatile actors, they are also talented singers! It was a wonderfully written play, which really reminded me of my National Service time; the time which I went through thick and thin with my "bros". It showcased the times that we've gone through. I was pretty amused by the Hokkien and vulgarities included in the show though. I would say these are two main languages used by soldiers and sergeants during our NS time =)

Overall, it was wonderful Sunday night for us, for which I thank them for their creativity and ingenuity for a marvelous production! =)
